Hello Marquette sailors + friends!
During the week of March 13th, the Marquette University Sailing Team traveled to Houston, Texas, for a week of spring training. Our crew of 16 loaded up the cars with high spirits and began the 18-hour road trip to the Lone Star State. With near-perfect sailing conditions projected for the duration of our stay, Marquette Sailing was eager to hit the water. We had a variety of experience levels, ranging from people who have never stepped foot in a boat to highly trained skippers. Our team sailed out of the Lakewood Yacht Club in Clear Lake, an entrance lake to Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Our days consisted of chalk talks, where we discussed everything from sailing basics to advanced racing tactics and on-the-water drills consisting of practice race starts, races, and technique drills. We worked with two highly experienced coaches who pushed us to learn and perfect our skills. It was nothing but motivating to see our team become stronger and more confident in our abilities as each day went by. Our team also spent time bonding off the water as we explored downtown Houston and made team dinners every night. Spring training provided our team with a breadth of sailing knowledge, and we look forward to implementing our new training tactics into our practices and races.
Without your support, this training would not be possible – Marquette Sailing thanks you all!
Hello Marquette sailors + friends!
A lot has happened in the past year- we lost a good portion of our Spring 2021 season due to COVID-19 restrictions, but we have been making up for lost time this semester! Our team has had the opportunity to travel to six regattas at which we competed with other schools in the MCSA. Our sailors looked great this season, and we all had a lot of fun out on the water! In addition to this, we hosted our annual Alumni and Pere Marquette Regattas at the Milwaukee Yacht Club. Both of them were a success, and we loved spending time with our sailing family both old and new.
As much as we are sad to say goodbye to the Fall 2021 season, the Marquette Sailing family is as strong as ever. Thank you to the team + our supporters for making this semester great!
Hoping to join MUST? No worries, its never too late.
After an abrupt end to the spring 2020 season and some adjustments to the fall 2020 season, MUST is thankful to have the ability to have a modified season. With no regattas this fall, the team is hoping to take advantage of a relaxed schedule and practice as much as possible. We are hoping to grow more as a team, as well as become better sailors during the lull in racing. If you or anyone you know is interested in joining the team, please reach out: firstname.lastname@example.org
This season, MUST opened an online store for anyone interested in representing MUST gear! It can be shipped to your house, or there is a pick up location in the Milwaukee area. There are a variety of options, hope you can find something you like! Orders are due September 22nd at midnight.
Big thank you to all of the volunteers and teams that came to Pere Marquette! This year we had 12 teams sailing; there were heavy winds and we got some great sailing in. We can’t wait to see you all again in the spring!
Thanks to all who came out to sail and volunteer with us for Pere Marquette! With 13 teams representing 9 schools, it was the largest and most successful Pere Marquette we have hosted, and we look forward to hosting again next year!
